It’s February, and if you are not in the mood for the “month of love” an Anti-Valentine’s Day might be exactly what you need.
Pink hearts and Cupids are popping up everywhere, but not everyone wants to celebrate romance. Maybe you are single and happy, or you have just broken up with someone. Or maybe love isn’t your thing right now. Whatever your reason is, you are definitely not alone. You’re part of a very large number of people looking to live their lives on their own terms right now, without drama or strings. Why not give yourself something to celebrate anyway – YOU!
This blog post is all about creating an Anti-Valentines Day routine and making yourself a priority.
Instead of letting the holiday make you feel left out, why not take charge and flip the script? Turn February 14th into a day that’s all about you—your happiness, your self-care, and the things that actually bring you joy. That may mean treating yourself to a cozy night in, blasting musical anthems, or indulging in an outrageously decadent dessert (because you can!), this is your permission slip to celebrate your way.
And hey, if you do want a little social time, there’s always Galentine’s Day—a chance to celebrate friendships, sip fancy drinks, and remind each other that love isn’t just about romance. You can fly solo or you can gather with your besties. Regardless, I’ve created this guide packed with ideas, fun essential oils, and rituals to help you reclaim the day.
Are you ready to ditch the expectations and create your own kind of celebration? Let’s begin!
Anti-Valentine’s Day Activities
Forget about what the calendar says. It’s time to create your own celebration, and make it all about you. Instead of letting the holiday get you down, use it as an excuse to indulge in some serious self-care. We’re going for cozy, comforting, and 100% on your terms.
In the spirit of Hygge (the Danish tradition of creating warmth, comfort, and joy in the little things), let’s make your Anti-Valentine’s Day feel like a soft, supportive hug. Are you craving deep relaxation, an outlet for frustration, or just a night that makes you feel good?
1. A Cozy, Soul-Nourishing Spa Night
Transform your space into a relaxation retreat. Set the scene with candles, soft lighting and even a salt lamp! Grab a plush blanket, and create a spa-like atmosphere with grounding essential oils like sandalwood, patchouli, frankincense and heart opening rose.
Try This:
- Add a few drops of rose absolute to a warm, candle lit bath for heart-healing energy.
- Diffuse frankincense and sandalwood to bring a sense of inner peace.
- Massage a lavender and chamomile body butter onto your skin before bed for the ultimate calming ritual.
This is your time to unwind, reflect, and remind yourself that your own love and care are more than enough.
2. Anger Movement Session
Not feeling all warm and fuzzy? That’s okay too! If you’re holding onto anger, frustration, or just want to shake off the Valentine’s Day energy, a high-energy movement session can be a game-changer.
Try This:
- Put on your favorite pump-up playlist (Choose songs that make you feel good).
- Do an HIT workout, take a brisk walk, or dance like no one’s watching.
- Use yarrow, ginger, and grapefruit essential oils in a body mist or diffuser for a fiery, confidence boost.
This isn’t about “working out”—it’s about moving stuck emotions out of your body and stepping into your power.
3. Journaling & Letting Go Ritual
Valentine’s Day can bring up a lot of emotions—past heartbreaks, unmet expectations, or just that lingering feeling of loneliness. A great way to release all of it is to put it on paper.
Try This:
- Write a letter to yourself including anything you need to let go of. This includes self-doubt, old wounds, and limiting beliefs.
- Once your letter is finished, tear it up and place it in a mug of warm water. Then find a way to return it to Nature. Find a place outside or a plant to bury it with. If you can’t bury it, flush it away.
- Diffuse frankincense and myrrh while journaling for emotional grounding.
By letting go of what no longer serves you, you’re creating space for something better.
4. Hygge Up with a Book & Tea
Sometimes, the best thing you can do for yourself is slow down and embrace the simple joys. Hygge is all about soft lighting, warm drinks, cozy blankets, and little moments of happiness.
Try This:
- Curl up with a book that makes you feel empowered, inspired, or just entertained.
- Make a cup of chamomile or peppermint tea and add a drop of honey and cinnamon for warmth.
- Diffuse bergamot, vanilla, and cardamom for a cozy, uplifting scent.
This kind of self-care reminds you that you don’t need anyone else to create happiness—it’s in the little things you give yourself every day.
5. My Favourite Cozy Night In
Living life on your own terms means that you can control how you spend your time this Anti-Valentines Day, and that includes full control over the tv remote! Plan ahead for your favourite nighttime drink, good food and comfy clothes. This is your opportunity to watch your favourite movie or tv show. Let your hair down, open that bottle of wine and enjoy some great food with an intriguing Drama, Romcom or (if you’re like me) something Sci-fi.
Try This:
- Plan your evening meal in advance but remember to keep it healthy.
- Make sure you have comfy clothes that you love.
- Snacks on the healthier side, such as air popped popcorn, are the perfect companion to movie night.
What betting thing to look forward to than a night for you, fully planned by you, including a handful of your favourite things.
6. Celebrate Galentine’s Day with Your Chosen People
Valentine’s Day might be focused on romance, but Galentine’s Day is all about celebrating friendship, and the people who make life sweeter. Try to gather with your besties for an evening of connection with friends.
- Set the mood – Light candles, put some music in the background, and create a warm, inviting space.
- Diffuse uplifting essential oils – Try a blend of 3 drops bergamot, 2 drops orange, and 2 drops lavender for a cozy, joyful vibe.
- Sip something comforting – Open a bottle of bubbly. Or if you prefer, herbal teas, hot cocoa, or mulled cider can make the moment memorable.
- DIY self-care rituals – Try making a personal perfume. You will need glass roller bottles (10 ml size), 10 ml of your favourite carrier oil and just 5 drops of your favourite essential oil per person. Essential oils such as ylang ylang, lavender, sweet marjoram, frankincense, patchouli, rosemary, peppermint and basil are great choices for roller bottles. They carry a strong scent at a low dilution allowing you a safe personal scent.
- Secret Galentine – Ask each friend to bring something small as a Galentine’s Day gift. Put a spending limit on it. You can often find really fun and creative gifts for a low dollar value, that deliver big on heartwarming.
You don’t have to celebrate solo. Bring your friends along for the ride and ask them what they would be interested in doing so that the entire group has fun!
Love Yourself First—Every Day
At the end of the day, Anti-Valentine’s Day isn’t about rejecting love—it’s about redefining it. Whether you’re spending the day embracing your independence, diving into self-care, or celebrating Galentine’s Day with your favorite people, this is your reminder that love starts with you.
Romantic relationships come and go, but the relationship you have with yourself is forever. So light those candles, diffuse your favorite essential oils, wrap yourself in a cozy blanket, and do whatever makes you feel good. Because loving yourself isn’t just a one-day event—it’s a lifelong commitment.
